What Is Baptism?

Baptism is a public declaration of your decision to follow Jesus. Both as the son of God and savior as well as your commitment to follow Him with your life. It is an outward expression of an inward decision. When you are baptized, you’re identifying with Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection. Being immersed in water represents dying to your old self, and rising out of the water represents the new life you have in Christ. Baptism is also a celebration, marking the beginning of your journey as a follower of Jesus and welcoming you into the community of believers.

Why Should I Be Baptized?

Baptism is a step of obedience to Jesus’ command in Matthew 28:19-20, where He instructed His followers to “make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” It’s a powerful way to publicly declare your faith and your commitment to follow Him. By being baptized, you’re following Jesus’ own example—He was baptized by John the Baptist to fulfill all righteousness (Matthew 3:13-17). It’s an important milestone in your faith journey, and it encourages others as well.

Who Can Be Baptized?

Baptism is not about having your life completely figured out or being perfect—it’s about taking a step of faith and declaring that you want to live your life for Him. Anyone who has made the decision to trust in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior can be baptized. This includes people of all ages, but it is important that they understand their decision and can make that decision to follow Jesus.

What If I Was Baptized As A Baby?

If you were baptized as a baby, it’s a beautiful testament to the faith of your parents or guardians who wanted to dedicate you to God. However, baptism is a personal decision that comes after you’ve consciously chosen to follow Jesus. If you’ve made that decision, being baptized as an adult or older child allows you to publicly affirm your own faith. It’s not a rejection of your earlier baptism but a fulfillment of your personal commitment to Christ.

Do I Have To Be Baptized To Be Saved?

We believe that salvation is a gift of grace that comes through faith in Jesus Christ, not through any works as we read in (Ephesians 2:8-9). Baptism is a step of obedience that follows salvation; it’s a declaration of your faith in Christ and your commitment to follow him. Baptism is an important part of the Christian life, but ultimately we believe that Jesus’ work on the cross is sufficient for salvation.

What Happens During a Baptism?

During a baptism, you will be asked to give a confession of faith. “I believe, that Jesus is the Christ, the son of the living God, and I accept Him, as my personal Lord and savior.” Then, you’ll be gently lowered into the water and raised back up. This symbolizes dying to your old self and being raised to new life in Christ (Romans 6:3-4). Baptisms often take place on our rooftop after church service four times a year. We encourage you to invite your family and friends and we invite the church to come and celebrate with you! It’s a joyful occasion, often accompanied by prayers, cheers, and encouragement from the church community.

Children who have made a personal decision to follow Jesus can be baptized. To ensure they understand the meaning and importance of baptism, we will offer a time for us to sit down and help to explain or answer any questions! This helps children articulate their faith and ensures they’re ready for this significant step. Baptism is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate a child’s faith and to encourage them in their walk with God.

Can I Invite My Friends and Family to My Baptism?

Absolutely! Baptism is a celebration, and it’s an amazing opportunity to share your faith with loved ones. We encourage you to invite friends, family, and anyone else you’d like to witness this special moment. It’s also a great way to share the gospel with those who might not yet know Jesus. We will also take plenty of photos and videos to capture the moment, so your loved ones can cherish the memory alongside you.
